INTRODUCTION

1. There were so many who were sick

2. To each one, the Lord Jesus encouraged them to exercise Faith

3. The Context of Matthew 9

a) The Lord had healed a woman with a flow of blood
b) He had raised the daughter of Jairus from the dead

THE HEALING OF TWO BLIND MEN

27 When Jesus departed from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out and saying, “Son of David, have mercy on us!”

28 And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”
They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”

29 Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.”

30 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, “See that no one knows it.”

31 But when they had departed, they spread the news about Him in all that country.

Matthew 9:27-31

1. The plight of the Two Blind men

a) They were unable to see
b) They were greatly handicapped
c) They would find it hard to make any kind of living

2. The Plea of the Two Blind Men

a) “Son of David”
i) This was a Messianic title
ii) They believed that the Lord Jesus was the Messiah
b) “Have mercy on us”
i) They pleaded for mercy
ii) They had no merit to plead with
c) They followed the Lord Jesus as best they could
i) They followed the Lord Jesus into a house
ii) They hoped for mercy to be extended to them

3. The Power of the Lord Jesus

a) He asked them if they truly believed He had the power to heal them
b) They replied in the affirmative
“Yes, Lord”

A PROFOUND EXPERIENCE

29 Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.”

30 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, “See that no one knows it.”

Matthew 9:29-30

1. The Lord touched their eyes

a) A touch of compassion
b) A touch of power

2. The Lord spoke to them

a) “According to your faith”
b) “Let it be to you”

3. A vital truth taught

a) Faith plays a significant role
b) Faith is the means that results in a miracle
c) The Two Blind Men” were healed instantly

4. A firm command given

a) “See that no one knows about it”
b) The Lord did not want people to come to Him just to be healed
c) There were more important aspects of life to consider
i) Entering into the kingdom of God
ii) Growing in knowledge
iii) Cultivation of faith
iv) Following the Lord as Disciples

5. Disobedient to the Lord’s command

a) They did not obey the Lord
b) They blazed abroad the news that the Lord could heal anyone
“But when they had departed, they spead the news about Him in all that country.”   Matthew 9:31

THE VAST MINISTRY OF THE LORD JESUS

35 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.

37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.

38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Matthew 9:35-38

1. Many areas to visit

a) Cities
b) Villages
c) All the journeys were made on foot
d) The tasks had to be fulfilled day by day

2. Ministries

a) Teaching
b) Preaching the gospel of the kingdom
c) Healing every sickness and disease
i) Power would be needed
ii) Faith would also be needed

3. Powerful compassion

a) It moves the heart
b) It drives the passion to minister
c) It enlightens the mind to see people as sheep without a shepherd

4 Sharing a vision of Faith

a) To pray to the Lord of the harvest
b) To send forth labourers into the harvest field
