“BEGUN IN THE SPIRIT”
(I) MORE THAN ONE WAY OF LOOKING AT OUR LIFE IN CHRIST
1. Christ and our New Life
2. The Holy Spirit and our New Life
(II) SIGNIFICANCE OF HAVING MORE THAN ONE PERSPECTIVE
1. To help us check the reality of our faith in Christ
2. To deepen our understanding of our new life in Christ
(III) THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT’S INVOLVEMENT IN OUR LIFE
1. Receiving of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 3:2)
a) He is given by the Lord
b) He is given as
i) Seal
ii) Guarantee (Ephesians 1:13-14)
c) He is received when we first believed in Jesus as our Saviour and Lord
i) He is not given because of the keeping of the law
ii) He is given by the hearing of faith (Galatians 3:2)
2. Begun in the Spirit (Galatians 3:3)
a) He generates new life
b) He creates the second-birth (John 3:3)
c) The new life begins with the Spirit of God indwelling us
d) He continues to work within us
e) He seeks to perfect His work in us
3. The works of the Holy Spirit in us
a) Mighty miracles in the days of the apostles (Galatians 3:5)
b) The fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)
c) He draws us to God in prayer (Romans 8:15)
