(I) TRIALS OF LIFE CAN BE VERY CHALLENGING
1. We can feel that we are at the end of the earth (Psalm 61:a)
2. We can feel thoroughly overwhelmed (Psalm 61:2b)
(II) THE PLACE OF PRAYER IN THE TRIALS OF LIFE
1. Crying out to God in prayer (Psalm 61:1)
a) Wherever we are
b) Whatever we may feel
2. Content of Prayer
a) God’s leading to higher ground ( Psalm 61:2c )
b) Vowing to God ( Psalm 61:5a )
i) Maturity of faith to comprehend the significance of a vow
ii) Maturity of faith and life to fulfil what is vowed
(III) THE POWER OF CONFIDENT FAITH IN GOD
1. God will be a shelter (Psalm 61:3a, 4b)
2. God will be a strong tower (Psalm 61:3b)
3. God will hear our vows (prayer) (Psalm 61:5a)
4. God will prolong our life (Psalm 61:6)
5. God will preserve (Psalm 61:7)
(IV) APPROPRIATE RESPONSE
1. To abide in the Lord’s tabernacle (Psalm 61:4a)
2. To trust in the shelter of God’s wings (Psalm 61:4b)
3. To sing praises to the Lord (Psalm 61:8a)
