(I) DESCRIPTIONS OF OUR HUMAN BODY
1. Earthen vessel
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels,” 2 Corinthians 4:7
2. Mortal flesh
“That the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.” 2 Corinthians 4:11
3. Outward man
“Even though our outward man is perishing,” 2 Corinthians 4:16
(II) DISCOVER THE LIFE OF JESUS THAT IS TO BE MANIFESTED IN OUR BODY
1. It is the life force of Jesus
“That the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.” 2 Corinthians 4:11
2. It is a treasure
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels,” 2 Corinthians 4:7
3. It is the power of God
“That the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” 2 Corinthians 4:7
4. It is a life that always triumphs
“We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed” 2 Corinthians 4:8
(III) DETERMINE TO MANIFEST THE LIFE FORCE OF JESUS
1. Carrying the life of Jesus
a) Identifying with Christ in His death
“Always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus,” 2 Corinthians 4:10
b) Willing to die for Christ’s sake
“For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake,” 2 Corinthians 4:11
2. Manifesting the life of the Lord Jesus
“That the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.” 2 Corinthians 4:10
“That the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.” 2 Corinthians 4:11
3. Cultivating the same spirit of faith
“And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak, knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you.” 2 Corinthians 4:13, 14
(IV) DIRECT RESULT OF HAVING THE LIFE OF JESUS IN US
1. Never to be discouraged
“Therefore we do not lose heart.” 2 Corinthians 4:16
2. Be renewed day by day
“Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.” 2 Corinthians 4:16
3. Understand that our affliction is light and temporary
“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment,” 2 Corinthians 4:17
4. Look forward to the eternal glory ahead
“Is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,” 2 Corinthians 4:17
