(I) THE FIRST COVENANT
Hebrews 8:7
1. Reference to the Covenant given to Israel at Mount Sinai
a) Moses was the mediator of this covenant
b) This covenant was made with Israel (Hebrews 8:8)
2. However this Covenant was not kept (Hebrews 8:9)
a) Israel did not keep this covenant
b) The nation did not continue with the covenant
c) God then disregarded the people who had broken His covenant
i) Israel went into captivity
ii) In the midst of the captivity God spoke of a new covenant (Jeremiah 31:31-34)
(II) THE NEW COVENANT
1. Reference to The New Covenant
a) Mediator of this New Covenant is the Lord Jesus (Hebrews 8:6a)
b) It is called “a better covenant” (Hebrews 8:6b)
c) It “was established on better promises” (Hebrews 8:6c)
d) It replaces the Old Covenant (Hebrews 8:13)
2. Special features of this New Covenant
a) God will put His laws in our mind (Hebrews 8:10a)
b) He will write them on our hearts (Hebrews 8:10b)
c) He will be our God (Hebrews 8:10c)
d) He will take us as His people (Hebrews 8:10d)
e) All may know God well (Hebrews 8:11)
i) The least
ii) The greatest
f) There will be great mercy (Hebrews 8:12)
g) Sins will be remembered no more (Hebrews 8:12)
(III) APPROPRIATE RESPONSE
1. Gratitude
