3. God’s desire is to offer us forgiveness

The blessing of full forgiveness

“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.”

Psalm 32:1, 2

1. All kinds of sins can be dealt with fully

a) Transgression forgiven

b) Sin covered

c) Iniquity not imputed

2. To have a spirit with no deceit

a) Nothing to hide

b) Freed from guilt

The wrong approach of not dealing with sin

“When I kept silent, my bones grew old through my groaning all the day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my vitality was turned into the drought of summer.”

Psalm 32:3, 4

1. The bones grow old

2. Groaning all day long

3. God’s hand was heavy on the person

4. Dryness of spirit

5. There is no blessing

The need to confess all sins

1. The confessions of all sins

“I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord, and You forgave the iniquity of my sin.”

Psalm 32:5

a) Humble acknowledgement of all sins to God

b) God is ever ready to forgive

2. Making confession promptly

“For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You in a time when You may be found; surely in a flood of great waters they shall not come near him.”

Psalm 32:6

a) Repentance should not be postponed to another day

b) Many assume that we can take our time

c) Confession should be made swiftly and promptly

When God blesses again

1. The blessing of God’s protection

“You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah”

Psalm 32:7

a) God is our hiding place

b) He will preserve us

c) He will surround us with songs of deliverance

2. The blessing of God speaking to us

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.
Do not be like the horse or like the mule, which have no understanding, which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, else they will not come near you.”

Psalm 32:8, 9

a) God speaks to us

i) Instruct

ii) Teach

iii) Guide with His eye

b) A sober warning

i) Not to be stubborn like the horse or mule

ii) To follow and draw near

Continued blessings

“Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; but he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him. Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!”

Psalm 32:10, 11

1. The foolish way of the wicked

a) No repentance

b) Many sorrows

c) No blessing

2. The wise way of the righteous/upright

a) Trust in the Lord

b) Blessing of mercy

c) Joy in the Lord

Personal application

1. Contemplate

a. The blessing of full forgiveness

b. No blessing in remaining silent

c. Confessing our sins

2. Commune

a. The blessing of communing with God

b. Seeking God for His blessings

c. God speaking to us

3. Choose

a. The blessing of the righteous

b. Not the sorrow of the wicked

c. Choose the wise path of the upright
