A PLEA MADE TO THE ROMAN CHURCH
Now, I beg you, brethren (Romans 15:30)
1. Humility expressed
2. Nothing is taken for granted
3. Humble language employed
4. And these words come from the dynamic Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ!
BASIS OF THIS PLEA
Through the Lord Jesus Christ, and through the love of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:30)
1. The invocation of the name of the Lord Jesus Christ
a) Huge significance
b) Consciousness of the mighty name of Christ
c) Not “pollical correctness”
d) His relationship with the Lord reflected
2. And through the love of the Holy Spirit
a) A correct understanding of the vital ministry of the Spirit (John 14-16)
b) Love of the Holy to be appreciated in the light of Galatians 5:22-23
THE PLEA MADE CLEAR
That you strive together with me in prayers to God for me (Romans 15:30)
1. The ministry of prayer
a) Pastoral prayer
b) Personal prayer
c) Supportive Prayers
d) Deep prayer involves “striving”
2. Paul does not despise the prayers of the saints
a) No prayer effort to be disdained
b) Every prayer counts for something
c) God does hear and answer prayers offered
i) Humbly and faithfully
ii) He solicited prayers on his behalf
