Session # 2

FULFILLING THE TASK ENTRUSTED I

2 Timothy 2:1-13

1. To reach others

a) To commit to faithful people the gospel 2 Timothy 2:2

b) The process:

i) To make disciples

ii) To instruct

iii) To inspire

2. In the future

a) The disciples would be able to teach others 2 Timothy 2:2

b) This is a difficult mission to fulfil

3. What does it take to be able to attempt this?

a) Be strong in the grace found in the Lord Jesus 2 Timothy 2:1

b) Endure hardship as a good soldier 2 Timothy 2:3-4

c) As a trained and disciplined athlete 2 Timothy 2:5

d) As a patient and hard-working farmer 2 Timothy 2:6

4. The need to grow in understanding

a) Understanding comes from the Lord 2 Timothy 2:7

b) Appreciating the example of Paul 2 Timothy 2:8-10

c) Be challenged to emulate Paul’s example

d) We must at least attempt to follow

5. “A faithful saying”

a) Identifying with the Lord Jesus 2 Timothy 2:11-13

i) Dying with the Lord

ii) Enduring for the Lord

b) Non-identifying with the Lord

i) If we deny the Lord Jesus

ii) If this denial is deliberate and wilful

iii) We will be denied

c) If we are faithless

i) If we falter and fail

ii) God remains faithful

iii) He will not abandon us

FULFILLING THE TASK ENTRUSTED II
2 Timothy 2:14-26

1. Improving our skills in the teaching ministry

a) Improvement must be desired

b) It must be sought diligently

c) There must be no complacency

2. Becoming a skilled worker 2 Timothy 2:15

a) A worker that does not need to be ashamed

b) Rightly dividing the word of truth

3. Things that will hinder us from improving

a) Striving over words of no profit 2 Timothy 2:14

b) Profane and idle babblings 2 Timothy 2:16

c) Straying from the truth 2 Timothy 2:18

4. Consequences

a) The ruin of hearers 2 Timothy 2:14

b) Increasing in ungodliness 2 Timothy 2:16

c) The spread of spiritual cancer 2 Timothy 2:17

d) Faith overthrown 2 Timothy 2:18

e) Snared by the devil 2 Timothy 2:26

5. Vital challenges

a) Depart from iniquity 2 Timothy 2:19

b) Be a vessel of honour 2 Timothy 2:21

i) Sanctified

ii) Prepared for every good work

c) Flee youthful lusts 2 Timothy 2:22

d) Pursue righteousness 2 Timothy 2:22

e) Be an exemplary servant of the Lord 2 Timothy 2:24-25

i) Do not quarrel

ii) Be gentle

iii) Able to teach

iv) Patient

v) Humbly correcting those who oppose
