Because of the game Esau brought home Genesis 25:28a

JACOB: GROWING UP YEARS

1. A mild man Genesis 25:27c

2. Dwelling in tents Genesis 25:27d
(A homebody)

3. Loved by Rebekah Genesis 25:28b

ESAU: ALL GROWN UP

1. He returned from the field Genesis 25:29b

2. He was weary Genesis 25:29c

3. He asked for the red stew Jacob made Genesis 25:30

ESAU’S RESPONSE

1. Exaggeration
“Look, I am about to die” Genesis 25:32a

“So what is this birthright to me?” Genesis 25:32b

JACOB’S INSISTENCE

1. Oath
“Swear to me as of this day” Genesis 25:33a

ESAU SELLS HIS BIRTHRIGHT

2. What he had in return

3. Comment: Esau despised his birthright

A DEEPER ANALYSIS
Hebrews 12:12-17

1. Esau cited as an example of a profane person

a) Godless
b) Irreligious

2. How is this understood?

a) For a morsel of food
b) Sold his birthright Hebrews 12:16

3. Dire Consequences

a) He was rejected
b) He found no place for repentance
c) Though he sought it diligently with tears Hebrews 12:17

HOW DOES A PERSON END UP BEING PROFANE?

1. Weakness of character

a) The hands which hang down
b) The feeble knees
c) Strength must be found Hebrews 12:12

2. Need to make straight paths Hebrews 12:13

a) Straightforward
b) No deviousness

3. Looking carefully lest one
falls short of the grace of God Hebrews 12:15a
