Message: “One more plague” Exodus 11:1

Text: Exodus 11:1-10

INTRODUCTION

1. Review Plagues

a) Blood
b) Frogs
c) Lice
d) Flies

h) Locusts
i) Thick Darkness

2. Some Vital Lessons (Psalm 111)

2 The works of the LORD are great,
Studied by all who have pleasure in them.
3 His work is honourable and glorious,
And His righteousness endures forever.
4 He has made His wonderful works to be remembered;
The LORD is gracious and full of compassion.
5 He has given food to those who fear Him;
He will ever be mindful of His covenant.
6 He has declared to His people the power of His works,
In giving them the heritage of the nations.
Psalm 111:2-6

ONE MORE PLAGUE

And the LORD said to Moses, “I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. Afterward he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will surely drive you out of here altogether.

Exodus 11:1

1. Forewarning of one more plague

2. Foretelling what Pharaoh would do

a) He will let the children of Israel go
b) In fact, he will surely drive them out of Egypt!

PREPARATION FOR THE FINAL PLAGUE

“Speak now in the hearing of the people, and let every man ask from his neighbour and every woman from her neighbour, articles of silver and articles of gold.”

Exodus 11:2

1. Moses must address the children of Israel

2. The people are to ask from their Egyptian neighbours

a) Articles of silver
b) Articles of gold

GOD’S FAVOUR

And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants and in the sight of the people.

Exodus 11:3

1. God gave the people great favour in the sight of the Egyptians

a) They were no longer seen as slaves
b) They were the children of Israel
c) They were the people of God

 

2. The standing of Moses

a) He was “very great in the land of Egypt”
b) “In the sight of Pharaoh’s servants”
c) “In the sight of the people”

MOSES’ WORD TO THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL

4 Then Moses said, “Thus says the LORD: ‘About midnight I will go out into the midst of Egypt;
5 and all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the female servant who is behind the handmill, and all the firstborn of the animals.
6 Then there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as was not like it before, nor shall be like it again.

Exodus 11:4-6

1. Thus says the LORD

a) This word came from God Himself
b) This was not from Moses!

2. The Death of all the firstborn son

a) The firstborn in the land of Egypt
b) The firstborn of the Pharaoh
c) The firstborn of the female servant
d) The firstborn of the animals

3. A huge outcry

a) In the land of Egypt
b) No precedent
c) This will be a unique plague

 

THE PROTECTION OF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL

7 But against none of the children of Israel shall a dog move its tongue, against man or beast, that you may know that the LORD does make a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.’
8 And all these your servants shall come down to me and bow down to me, saying, ‘Get out, and all the people who follow you!’ After that I will go out.” Then he went out from Pharaoh in great anger.

Exodus 11:7-8

1. God will protect the children of Israel

2. Even the dogs would not bark

a) At the children of Israel leaving the country
b) At all the animals leaving with them

3. All would bow to Moses

4. All the Egyptians would want the children of Israel to leave their land

5. God would make a difference with reference to the children of Israel

a) Protection

b) Provision
c) Presence

 

A WORD OF WISDOM TO MOSES

9 But the LORD said to Moses, “Pharaoh will not heed you, so that My wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.”
10 So Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh; and the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not let the children of Israel go out of his land.

Exodus 11:9-10

1. This is a summary statement

2. The LORD had forewarned Moses

a) The Pharaoh would not heed
b) The Pharaoh would not release the children of Israel
